De nadruk ligt op het nemen van verantwoordelijkheid voor ons eigen gedrag; in de zin van antwoord geven op wat het leven ons vraagt en biedt. Op die manier kunnen we betekenis geven aan de mooie, blije, verdrietige en pijnlijke gebeurtenissen die op ons levenspad komen. Gestalttherapie is gericht op de integratie van voelen, denken en handelen. Het vrijmaken en verwerken van emoties is daar een onderdeel van, evenals het leren herwaarderen van oude plaatjes die ons belemmeren om in de realiteit van het moment uiting te geven aan wie we zijn.

Systeemtherapie

De Systeemtherapie (ook vaak gezinstherapie genoemd) is een onderdeel van de humanistische psychologie. Deze therapievorm streeft ernaar zogenaamde "levende systemen" zoals paren, families maar ook bedrijven en organisaties ondersteuning te bieden om uit een probleemsituatie te groeien en een voor iedereen meer bevredigend evenwicht te ontwikkelen.
Wij zijn allemaal onderdeel van systemen en in wisselwerking met elkaar. Het is dan ook van groot belang dit geheel mee te nemen bij de therapie. Als één van de systeemleden een probleem heeft, wordt meestal het hele systeem ontwricht. En ook andersom kan een probleem dat in het gezin (soms over generaties heen) speelt, zich manifesteren in één individu, zonder dat deze grotere samenhang duidelijk zichtbaar is.
